Hello! I’m Shem, welcome to my space here!
I live in sunny Perth, Western Australia, in a small little house on a quarter-acre block with my giant Viking of a husband, my three kiddos, a handful of chickens, a rabbit and an ever-growing vegetable garden.
I’ve had a pretty interesting food journey for a home cook, despite the fact that I have zero formal training and have never had much more than a small apartment-sized kitchen, I’ve landed myself in some pretty interesting roles over the years. From helping lead a team of cooks making beautiful homemade meals for up to 100 people once a week for the last 17 years, to cooking in and for cafes, to baking wedding cakes, catering events, and let’s face it, my most spectacular achievement- feeding my family and all the trials and challenges we have faced there…. and yes, we have faced some interesting ones!
I’ve watched the food industry in Australia over the last 17 years and it has been amazing to watch! It feels like everyone is a chef! There are a billion recipes, thousands and thousands of people to follow on social media who make the most extraordinary meals! The cookbook section in bookshops have grown from a few shelves to an entire isle! It’s almost overwhelming!
So why start another food blog?
Well, I’m hoping to create a space outside all the noise, and I invite you to join me.
If you don’t where to start, if you are tired and frustrated by the kitchen, if you feel like you just need to get back to simple, I encourage you to take a deep breath, make yourself a cuppa, and settle in for the ride. This might just be the space for you.
